Sometimes you just have to roll the dice and hope your number comes up. While searching for an alternative summer windsurfing destination the wife and I came across Zakynthos (more commonly known as Zante). Without much information regarding wind stats we decided to take a punt on this Greek island and jetted off for some windsurfing in Zante action.
Thankfully Zante delivered on all fronts. Our hosts, the Peligoni Club, ensured our stay was fantastic and we managed to score a 90% hit rate, in terms of wind, during our trip. It just goes to show that if you don’t go, you won’t know (as *Eddie would have said).
Windsurfing in Zante is more than doable and the island would make a worthy consideration for freeride and freestyle sailors. A little under the radar, when compared to its Ionian neighbour of Vassiliki, Zante serves up fun windsurfing conditions that most riders will appreciate.
